Melbourne Water Green Data Centre

Turning data centres green

Melbourne Water needed to accommodate all of their production applications and core infrastructure in a new facility. The client wanted to create a data facility to house the operations of the business with all necessary improvements and lessons from their current facility incorporated. The data centre was also intended to have the capacity to provide growth for a further 15 years without needing to relocate.

The main project concerns were site safety, with an emphasis on nil injuries during construction, as well as Quality Assurance to ensure the correct installation was achieved. SHAPE had to ensure integration with the planned IT equipment migration, as well as a detailed commissioning and handover process and detailed client training on completion of the fitout.

Alongside the business needs, Melbourne Water wanted to create a data centre which utilised the minimum amount of electricity to support the IT equipment. Using technology and other initiatives, Melbourne Water sought to create the most energy efficient data centre in Australia.
